Maryvale solar and energy storage project breaks ground in NSW

Malaysia-headquartered clean energy provider Gentari, in partnership with PCL Construction, has officially commenced construction on the Maryvale Solar and Energy Storage (MSES) project. Located in the heart of New South Wales’ Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (CWO REZ), the hybrid facility is set to play a key role in Australia’s clean energy transition.

Large-scale solar and battery storage integration

The Maryvale project will combine a 243 MWp solar installation with a 172 MW/409 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS), delivering reliable, dispatchable renewable power to the grid. The hybrid facility is designed to maximise the use of solar energy while providing critical grid support during periods of peak demand or low generation.

Commitment to accelerating Australia’s energy transition

Gentari Australia Head Claire Elkin emphasised that the project demonstrates the company’s commitment to advancing Australia’s energy transition with dependable renewable energy solutions. The Maryvale project is expected to contribute significantly to regional energy resilience and support New South Wales’ renewable energy targets.

Boost for regional jobs and economic growth

Situated 364 kilometres northwest of Sydney, the construction of the MSES project is set to create local jobs and stimulate economic activity in the Central-West Orana region. The project will also provide opportunities for local suppliers and contractors throughout the development and operational phases.

A model for future renewable energy zones

As work gets underway, the Maryvale Solar and Energy Storage project is positioned to serve as a model for future renewable energy zone developments across Australia, integrating large-scale renewables with advanced storage to deliver reliable, sustainable power.
