Generous incentives are now available to eligible homeowners in Victoria to replace existing gas heaters with cleaner, greener, more efficient electric alternatives.
The cash-saving scheme provides significant rebates on installing modern energy-efficient solutions such as split system air conditioners in the state’s bid to phase out gas heating.
The rebate falls under the ongoing Victorian Energy Upgrades for Homes, which encourages homeowners to make more energy-efficient home renovation choices and turn off the gas for good.
According to VEU product registry data, 483 high-efficiency air conditioners are currently eligible under the initiative, with many purchasers able to recoup the transition costs.
Those who replace a gas-ducted heater with a reverse-cycle ducted system will receive a rebate of between $1000 and $8000.
Meanwhile replacing a gas ducted heater with a reverse cycle multi-split system could result in a rebate between $1000 to $7000.
Why swap to split system air conditioning?
- Low installation costs
- Zonal heating or cooling
- Energy efficient
- Year-round comfort
- Reduced environmental impact
- Cost savings
- System cost rebates
Energy-efficient systems installer Efficient Energy Group CEO Joshua Liptak says the current rebates are a “not to be missed” opportunity, recommending those with gas heaters take advantage of the opportunity before its gone.
“For Victorian households, there has never been a better time to make the switch to energy-efficient heating and cooling solutions,” he said.
“These systems provide sustainable year-round heating and cooling, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and lower energy bills.”
“The Victorian Residential Air-Conditioning Rebate will pay for most of the installation costs for eligible households, making this a very smart investment for your wallet and the environment.”
The initiative is part of the state government’s commitment to transition Victoria towards net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Rebate eligibility requires homeowners to swap a ducted, non-ducted gas or slab heating system with a high-energy efficiency electrical system.
And Joshua advises the quicker you make the switch the more you will save.
“ But you need to take action… get the ball rolling, and the sooner you do this, the sooner you’ll start enjoying the benefits of your new system,” he said.
Homeowners can apply for the VEU rebate via the Service Victoria website or through a registered installer.
