Tradies were given the five-star celebrity treatment last week as Master Builders Australia welcomed the best in the business down the red carpet.
Times might be tough for some tradies on the tools, but that hasn’t stopped the construction lobbyist group from putting on a night of glitz and glam for construction bosses blazing the path forward this year’s National Business Excellence Awards.
Hosted last Thursday, companies from across the industry took to the stage to celebrate the strides construction had made over the last year, with awards ranging from achievements in financial management and customer service to overall business improvement and corporate responsibility.
Master Builders Australia’s CEO, Denita Wawn, said the awards were an opportunity to showcase the incredible work happening within the industry.
“Too often, we hear about the negatives of business practices in our industry, whether it is insolvencies or non-compliant building, but we all know that these stories relate to a small component of the sector,” she said.
“The vast majority of business operators in our industry are striving to keep afloat during tough times and are still focused on pursuing sustainable and viable business practices for the future of their business, their employees, sub-contractors, and clients.
“We are committed to promoting best practices and this is a great occasion to highlight some of the incredible work that takes place everyday in building and construction.”
After opening up the nominations for the fifth year of the awards opened in June, Wawn said that the group was inundated with a “large number” of entries from hundreds of businesses kicking goals across the industry.
But after an extensive and meticulous judging process, there could only be eight winners from small, medium and large businesses that could take home their respective crowns for the residential, commercial and civil construction sectors.
The winners are…

Building a better future
While only a select few could take home the top prize, Ms Wawn said all of the “standout organisations” that were selected as finalists demonstrated some amazing work that has set a higher industry bar for the future.
“Master Builders Australia and its Member Associations would like to congratulate all of tonight’s winners and the finalists on their achievements, their hard work and most importantly, their commitment to excellence,” she said.
“These standout organisations have demonstrated their commitment to quality, service and sustainable business practices embody the spirit of the National Business Excellence Awards.”
With these award events putting best in business practices on display for all of construction to see, Ms Wawn hoped others would be inspired to raise the industry bar going forward into another rocky financial year.
“These awards are not only about recognising the work that’s been done, but about inspiring the work that is going to happen and promoting a culture of excellence throughout the industry,” she added.
“Excellence in the industry is a continuous goal, and we look forward to seeing the amazing work that will happen over the next year and can’t wait to be back in 2025.”
