There’s no feeling quite like hitting the pub for a warm feed and a beer-bra Streisand after a long day of hard yakka on the tools, right?
Sure, the missus might say it’s ‘unhealthy’, but damn, there’s something about chowing into a parma down at the local after knock off that just hits different.
Well, what if I told you there was a way you could recreate some of your favourite pub feeds in your own home without having to hammer another notch into your toolbelt?
Enter Aussie fitness tracking app MyFitnessPal and their new range of ‘reimagined pub grub’. Featuring all of your favourites like burgers, fish, chips, and even my beloved delicious-looking sticky date pudding, nutritionists are saying these healthy alternatives taste just like the real thing – without the side of guilt.
The brains behind the recipe list, nutritionist Luke Hines, emphasised that achieving health and fitness goals doesn’t require sacrificing taste or indulging in “bland, diet-culture meals”.
“Simple swaps can transform our favourite dishes into healthier options without compromising on flavour,” he said.
“Whether it’s using avocado oil instead of olive oil, or opting to bake instead of deep fry, there are countless ways to balance macros while still enjoying flavoursome meals.”
And if you’re worried that these healthy alternatives aren’t enough to fuel your summer gym grind, Luke said he’s got you covered.
“Each dish on the menu has been crafted with protein-rich ingredients, which are essential for building healthy nutritional habits,” added Hines.
“Protein is a key macro, alongside carbohydrates and fats, that forms the foundation of good nutrition. It’s not only crucial for muscle and bone repair but also provides vital energy.”
Don’t believe me? If you’re in the Sydney area, MyFitnessPal is giving you the chance to try it for yourself as their new pop-up event fittingly dubbed the ‘MyFitnessPub’.
It’s already been a few days since the popup opened its doors at The Oaks in Neutral Bay, so you’ve likely already missed your chance to snag a free feed as one of the first 100 members to show their MyFitnessPal app at the door, but it’s still worth a shot.
Curious cooks can also find the recipes online through the company’s website to easily recreate the pub classics in the comfort of your own home.
Who knows? If you stick to the healthy pub feeds, you might even have a shot at making next year’s coveted tradie calendar.
