Mistakes are bound to happen on any job site, but these blunders are so outrageous they’ll have you wondering whether the tradies responsible were blindfolded while doing the work.

Welcome to the October edition of Build-it’s “Building Blunders,” where we expose the most jaw-dropping mistakes sent in by tradespeople and home renovators from across the country.

This month’s mix of shockers will leave you burying your head in your hard hat as we chuckle our way through some of the worst work we’ve seen in a while.

So, grab your smoko snacks and prepare for a good laugh as we dive into October’s top tradie trash heaps from some of Australia’s worst “skilled” workers.

Catastrophic Concreting

We know the importance of a solid foundation when it comes to any construction project, but apparently, these concreters didn’t quite get the memo.

Some of these pouring attempts are so bad, they’ll leave you wondering if the concrete was mixed with hope, prayers and nothing else.

This shocking slab was holding back work on this site.
No levels were used in the construction of this concrete slab.
Not the smoothest job … and where is that drain going?

Crappy car stuff

As a tradie, having a good set of wheels is essential to get you and your tools to and from the job site.

But we all know having the latest and greatest van or ute can really drive a hole in your pocket.

Lucky for some tradies, they’ve got the know-how to convert any car into the bitumen’s best … at least, that’s what they thought when they built these DIY drives.

We thought this might be a wasp nest… until we realised it was just a bad welding job.

If your ute breaks down I guess you have to improvise to get your tools to work.
We are sure council will approve of this driveway when they hear about it.

Insane Interiors

The inside of a home should be a sanctuary, but after seeing these examples, you might want to keep your hard hat on while indoors.

Don’t even get us started on the dodgy electrical work – nothing says “safe and functional” like a powerpoint with a mystery hole.

Another well planned kitchen in a new build.

Problematic pipework

Plumbing is one of those things that needs to be done right the first time. Unfortunately, these examples will definitely need a re-work.

Firstly, we’ve got a pipe that’s meant to connect to… well, we’re not entirely sure, but it definitely isn’t meant to end there.

We are wondering what happened to the rest of this pipe?
Another makeshift outdoor shower.
I’m not sure that glue is going to hold, mate…

Terrible tiling

Tiling can make or break the look of a room, and these examples are firmly in the “break” category.

Check out this tile job, where the tiling is so inconsistent you’d think the installer did it with his eyes closed.

And lastly, a floor tile job that’s so wonky it will have you wanting to rip it up and do it yourself.

Stay tuned for next month’s edition of Building Blunders, where we’ll undoubtedly have even more cringe-worthy examples of the worst work on Aussie job sites. Until then, remember—if you mess up, at least remember to send us the picture!
