An Aussie brand of safety boots is revolutionising job-site shoe safety worldwide thanks to its revolutionary new fatigue-resistant technology.
The innovative construction shoe has been built with a never-before-seen anti-fatigue design modelled around tradies’ biomechanics.
PPE pioneers KAMU, an Australian workwear safety brand, are the brains behind the boots, teaming with celebrated German design studio Factor Product, known for working alongside global giants such as Adidas, Salewa and Fischer Sports.
The Aussie shoe makers are already leaving their footprint across the globe, picking up the coveted iF DESIGN AWARD 2024 just last month.
Aussie boots stepping up the benchmark
Now in its 70th year, the competitive international design gong was contested by more than 11,000 different product designs from 72 countries. KAMU took home the prize for their steps forward in improving workplace health and safety.
KAMU co-founder Lucy Hartanu says the team worked tirelessly to design a multifaceted work boot built to reduce the risks of exhaustion, musculoskeletal issues, and heat stress.
“We want to empower the workforce to remain energised and alert throughout the day, thereby reducing hazards and preventing injuries,” she told Build-it.
“We also aim to promote greater well-being and faster recovery after shifts, recognising that life beyond work matters.”
The shoes feature a four-layer sole construction combining materials of varying densities to optimise energy rebound and shock absorption and deliver excellent ankle and arch support,to make walking and long periods on the feet easier for the wearer.
Surpassing the highest measurable SRC slip-resistant standards, the boots maintain climate regulation by using premium leathers alongside performance materials like Coolmax and Ortholite, keeping feet dry and workers cool throughout the toughest Aussie environments.
Munich-based design studio Factor Product contributed to the blueprints, with managing partner Boris Simon praising the international collaboration to make a potentially life-saving shoe.
“With a focus on a design and materials that help prevent fatigue, we have achieved the seamless integration of biomechanical function, advanced robustness, lightweight construction and an iconic look,” he said.
“Our collaboration with the KAMU team and BASF performance material experts resulted in a work boot range that represents a new breed of PPE and might set a new benchmark in safety and wellbeing at the workplace.”
