As part of National Safe Work Month, Build-it sat down with James Dibou, Uvex Safety Australia’s Product Manager for Hearing Protection, to discuss the often-overlooked hazard of hearing loss in the construction industry.

While tradies are quick to grab gloves and hard hats, hearing protection is frequently ignored — despite the irreversible damage that noise exposure can cause.

Noise from drills, grinders, and other tools can cause significant harm, especially when exposure is prolonged and repeated every single week.

To ensure these health and safety warnings no longer fall on deaf ears, Build-it editor Paul Eyers sat down with James to discuss the importance of hearing protection while on the job.

Uvex Australia provides task-specific protective equipment for both work and play.

“Hearing protection is basically an invisible threat,” James told Build-it.

“Tradies often don’t realise that once your hearing is damaged, it’s permanent.”

“You’ve only got one set of ears,” he adds.

“So understanding the type and levels of protection is very important depending on the job you’re doing.”
