The Australian construction industry is no stranger to high-risk environments, but this year’s WorkSafe Awards are proving that innovation and dedication are paving the way for safer workplaces.
With 21 finalists across six categories, this year’s awards will highlight groundbreaking safety solutions, leadership in workplace health, and achievements in returning injured workers to safe employment.
Taking place later this month, the Victorian WorkSafe Awards 2024 will celebrate and honour the best of workplace safety innovation and leadership from the last calendar year.
Raising the bar for workplace safety
From fall-prevention AI to world-first snow ambulances, the awards are building up to be a blueprint for the future of workplace safety.
With almost 150 nominations received, WorkSafe Chief Executive Officer Joe Calafiore said this year’s finalists represent a diverse range of industries, from construction to healthcare and education.
“Our finalists come from a wide range of industries, including construction, education, healthcare and more,” Mr Calafiore said.
“It’s wonderful to see advancements in workplace health and safety happening right across the board.”
Among the standout safety innovations this year are height-adjustable change tables, AI-driven fall prevention, and Ambulance Victoria’s world-first over-snow ambulance, showing just how far workplace safety has evolved.

This year’s Health and Safety Representative of the Year category is stacked with a record six finalists, reflecting a growing focus on empowering employees to drive safety improvements from the ground up.
The awards will also recognise organisations that are leading the way in preventing workplace mental injury, a growing challenge in high-stress industries like construction.
The return to work categories will showcase businesses and individuals who have gone above and beyond to support injured workers in safely re-entering the workforce, ensuring sustainable employment solutions.
“Each and every year, our finalists set new standards in health and safety innovation with fresh ideas that challenge what’s possible,” Mr Calafiore said.
“Their efforts are shaping the future of workplace health and safety.”
