One punter has proposed to his partner over the weekend in what might be the Aussiest way possible – over the loudspeaker at the local Bunnings.

Talking to Channel Seven’s Sunrise team on Tuesday, Logan man Jeff revealed how he set out to turn his weekly wander down the aisles of the nation’s favourite hardware store into a romantic moment that his now bride-to-be Melanie will never forget.

According to the couple, Melaine shops at Bunnings every week and thought she was meeting her daughter for a coffee at the Bunnings café when a surprising announcement rang out through the store.

“Attention shoppers … is there a Melanie Burwell in the store?” the announcement began.

“If so, Jeff would like to know if you’ll marry him.”

Melanie told Channel 7 that she was too busy ordering Jeff a coffee that she almost missed the proposal altogether.

“…Jeff’s going, “Listen, listen!” and it’s like, “What’s going on, what’s going on?”‘ she said.

“And then I heard my name, and it was like, “Oh no!” I had not expected it. It was just such a surprise.”

As the announcement rang out through the store, Jeff got down onto a bent knee in the café to present Melanie with the ring – which was met with a resounding yes!

While the local Bunnings might not be the obvious choice for a prime proposal spot, Melanie said that the showroom floor was the perfect place for a regular shopper like her.

“I thought it’s such a typical thing for us, because I’m there at Bunnings every week, and he was just doing it just right for me,” she said.

“It was so thought out and thoughtful. I just was shocked.”

In fact, the man said that one of the things he liked most about his now-fiance was her love for the hardware store and he knew she would say yes because they were “two peas in a pod”.

“We often say the same thing at the same time. That’s why I knew she’d say yes,’ he said.

Jeff revealed the proposal had been months in the making and thanked Bunnings for jumping on board to help the happy couple out.

“I went to them over two months ago and asked if would do it… and they came back and said yes they would do it,” he said.

Bunnings regional manager Ben Oram said the team were happy to help.

“We wish them the very best and look forward to welcoming the happy couple back in store soon,” Mr Oram said.

The happy couple are now busy planning their wedding, though they did say they have decided against walking down their favourite Bunning’s aisle for the big day.

But they did confirm that in honour of the chain’s famous sausage sizzle, guests could expect to see a few snags at the reception.
