Tradie marketplace hipages says Australia’s first ever ‘Tradie Pie’ is the ultimate healthy alternative to the signature smoko snack.

Partnering with iconic pie institution Harry’s Café de Wheels, the first-of-its-kind pie claims to be a healthier take on the classic beef pastry, promising to deliver on the five key factors that matter most to tradies when it comes to their meals: speed, taste, ease, freshness and health.

Owner & CEO of Harry’s Café de Wheels, Daniel Beuthner, says that with 50 years of pie-making experience behind them, they know better than anyone what tradies want from a pie.

“Tradies’ love for a meat pie is iconic,” Beuthner says. “They are among our most popular customers and we see hundreds in our stores almost every day.

“In fact, we know it’s their second most popular choice of meal on site because they are quick, tasty and can be eaten with one hand.

“With a strong team of food professionals with over 50 years of experience behind the recipe, our goal was to elevate the state’s most famous pie by tailoring it to tradies and making it healthier — without, of course, losing its delicious flavour.

“We’ve achieved exactly that with the Tradie Pie.”

Recent research from the CSIRO revealed that construction workers have one of the worst overall diets in Australia, with 68 per cent of tradies surveyed by hipages admitting they resorted to buying cheap, quick and not-so-nutritious meals on the job.

But this is a problem the tradie-pie hopes to solve. Created with nutritional guidance from Advanced Sports Dietitian Ryan Pinto from My Muscle Chef, the Tradie-Pie is 40 per cent lower in carbs than a traditional meat pie.

The healthy smoko staple also contains 20g of protein for boosting muscle recovery, one serving of vegetables and almost half the daily intake of dietary fibre for boosting overall gut health.

According to Mr Pinto, kicking unhealthy eating habits is the key to a better day on-site.

“Given the labour-intensive nature of a tradie’s day when on the tools, and the fact that 85 per cent have more energy when they are eating better, it’s so important to give your body the right fuel,” he said.

“Having a protein-rich meal such as the lower carb Tradie Pie can help tradies stay fuller for longer and promote a faster recovery after a hard day’s work.”

Nicholas Ellery, VP of Marketing at hipages, said they can’t wait for tradies to try it for themselves.

“Our mission has always been to help support Aussie tradies both on and off-site, and the Tradie Pie achieves exactly that. Harry’s Café de Wheels has been the perfect partner to bring this to life, and we can’t wait for tradies to taste it,” he said.

“In the same way that eating well can help you to get more done on the tools, hipages help tradies to boost their job pipeline with more work. Not only do we have tradies’ backs, we’ve got their guts too.”

Tradies can find the ‘Tradie Pie’ for $7.90 in all of Harry’s stores across New South Wales as of this week.
